New baby card with a twist – Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop July ’22…

The theme for this months Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop is Celebrations, and a dear friend of mine became a Grandma last week, so what better than to celebrate with a new baby card. I don’t make many of these, but I hope she likes it.

The Stamptastic Friends are a super talented group of Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators who come together once a month to offer you some creative inspiration. Check out the links at the end of the post to see what the rest of the team have made this month.

A new baby card with a twist, in green and gold with herons

At first glance you might not think this looks like a New Baby Card, and I would actually agree with you, hence my title – with a twist. I knew I wanted to use the Heron Habitat bundle for this card, for two reasons. The Elephant Parade stamp set (another obvious choice) is on strike due to overuse and I think these birds look so similar to stalks, that famous bird that carries the newborn babies.

I chose to work with the colours Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent and Gold (just look at that Distressed Gold Paper!) The Designer Series paper is from the Texture Chic papers, and is simply gorgeous.

The herons themselves are heat embossed in Gold Embossing Powder and lightly coloured with Smoky Slate ink. I must admit I wasn’t sure about that as soon as I had done it, but decided to go with it! The grasses are cut from Soft Succulent cardstock that had been sponged with Evening Evergreen ink – I should sponge onto coloured card more often I think.

To make the centre panel I took a piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock measuring 7cm x 11cm and a piece of Basic White Cardstock measuring 6.5cm x 10.5cm. I sponged the edges of this first with Soft Succulent ink and then with Evening Evergreen ink – to really try and give some depth from light to dark. Once happy with the sponging I added some splattering using the Evening Evergreen Stampin’ Blend and then started to layer the card together.

Can you see that top heron in flight? See what it is carrying? It’s a newborn child being carried in a sling – well, being carried in a party hat from the Hippest Hippo Dies!!

All that was left to do was to add a sentiment with some twine tucked under and a few Evening Evergreen bling and my new baby card is complete. I hope that you like it. Have a hop around and take in the other celebration projects.
