The Magic of the Home for Christmas Kit
Normally, I love to go rogue and mix up my patterned papers, but for this double page spread, I followed the kit instructions completely to the letter. It is so refreshing to just sit back, follow a guide, and watch a beautiful 12×12 Christmas scrapbook layout come to life.
(A quick confession: The lovely family in the matching jumpers on this layout are actually the stock photos from the Stampin’ Up! website! I haven’t quite convinced my own family to don matching green and red knitwear yet, but looking at how great these pages turned out, I might have to try this year!)
The Great Scrapbooking Debate: To Pop Up or Not?
While I stuck to the instructions for the design, I did make one controversial choice: Dimensionals.
As cardmakers, our first instinct is to pop everything up on foam foam pads for extra texture. But when it comes to memory keeping, there is a bit of a divide! Some scrapbookers love the 3D look, while others (like me!) prefer to stick things down flat so the albums don’t become too bulky to close. I kept my elements flat on this layout, but it is a brilliant discussion point – are you Team Flat or Team Dimensionals when you scrapbook? Let me know in the comments below the video!
The Best Surprise: The Leftover Paper!
The absolute best part of using this Scrapbook Workshop Kit was what happened after the layout was finished.
The kit contains enough materials to create three distinct double-page layouts, but I was genuinely amazed at how much patterned paper was left over at the end. You easily get enough extra paper to create a whole stack of matching Christmas cards, or even design a completely custom 12×12 Christmas scrapbook layout of your own using the scraps!
3 Tips for Using Scrapbook Workshop Kits:
- Trust the process: If you are new to 12×12 layouts, follow the printed guide first. It teaches you brilliant placement tricks for your photos and titles.
- Keep your scraps: Do not throw away the off-cuts! The coordinating papers make fantastic borders for future cardmaking projects.
- Prep your photos: The kit instructions tell you exactly what size photos you need (like standard 4x6s or cropped 3x4s), so you can print them ahead of time and just drop them onto the page.
