What is vellum? Vellum is a speciality type of paper that originates from the 16th or 17th century. It was originally made from animal skin, and was a very early form of paper. Nowadays, it is a semi-transparent ‘paper’ often used in cardmaking, but it’s properties can make it difficult to adhere, because you can often see the glue through the vellum.

One of the ways that you can get around this problem is to make a vellum wrap for your card. Simply cut the vellum to the desired height, but when you cut the width cut it 1″ or 2.5cm wider than the layer underneath. Then simply score it at 1/2″ or 1.25cm on either end and then fold and burnish the score lines.

Then all you need to do is simply fold the edges underneath the layer (in this case the DSP) and glue in place on the back, then stick your layer to the card front. Very simple but a very effective way of making sure there are no unsightly glue marks!
