Card Design Inspiration – CASE a Colleague – Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop April ’21…

Sometimes it can be hard to get that all important card design inspiration, so the Stamptastic Friends are here to show you one way you can make a start when you are really struggling for what to create, with our CASE a Colleague blog hop.

The Stamptastic Friends are a friendly bunch of talented crafters who come together once a month to share their passion for all things crafty with you. We would love you to be inspired by our ideas, so do be sure to hop around using the links at the bottom of this post to see what the rest of the gang have been creating.

What is CASEing?

When we talk about CASEing a Colleague, (Copy and Share Everything) we mean looking at someone else’s work and using elements of it as a starting point for your design. Take the layout, or the theme, or the colours, or the look and make it your own. We can get card design inspiration from all over the place, but other people’s work is a great place to start. Just make sure that you credit the original designer if your work is very similar to theirs.

With so much COVID around at the moment I decided I had better make some Get Well Soon cards, so I pulled out some of the fun new products including the In Colour Notecards and Envelopes and the Happiness Abounds stamp set and sat down to craft. But where to start? Sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming can’t it, all these new products.

I had a look around and decided I wanted to ‘try’ a clean and simple look, something my crafty friend Gina Connor from Emerald Kreations does VERY well indeed. I loved this card of hers, so I thought I would try for something similar! You can see more of this card over on her blog post. Isn’t it pretty!

So, when I say ‘try’, I say it because clean and simple is NOT my go to style. It is something I struggle with but something I would like to be able to do better. I went through several different card designs, and I must admit that my finished card is definitely not as clean and simple as this, but instead I just went for CASEing the layout and the theme instead.

The colours I have chosen to work with are Fresh Freesia, Orchid Oasis and Granny Apple Green, they work beautifully together and really tie in to both the envelopes that come with the In Colour notecards and envelopes and the Hues of Happiness Designer Series Papers.

The flowers and leaves are cut from this gorgeous Designer Series Paper, available 3rd May, or available now if you are a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator (or want to become one – why not visit my Join My Team page for more info on how you can get your hands on all these products before general release to the public).

I am loving this new In Colour – it really does have some gorgeous purple tones to it, and the In Colour Designer Series Paper and Glimmer paper down the left hand edge of the card really set it off I think. Stunning!

Gina had made great use of the butterfly die on her card, so I knew I wanted to add it to mine too, and I think it looks so pretty just nestled under the sentiment there. The flower arrangement is adhered to a stitched square, a new die from the ever useful Stylish Dies collection, and this is popped onto dimensionals before being added straight to the card front.

A couple of rhinestones and my card is complete. Thank you so much to Gina for the card design inspiration, I’m just sorry I didn’t quite achieve your clean and simple look!! Please do hop around the rest of the team’s pages using the links below to see more ideas for CASEing a colleague.
