Make a double diamond fold card – Stamptastic Friends Blog Hop May ’24…

Hello and welcome to this month’s Stamptastic Friends’ Blog Hop, where we are focussing on our favourite tools, and with mine being the Stampin’ Up! paper trimmer I couldn’t resist sharing this double diamond fold card which uses both the cutting and scoring sections of the trimmer.

The Stamptastic Friends are a lovely bunch of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world who love to share our passion for crafting. Please do head to the rest of the team’s blogs once you have finished up here, for more inspiration.

I’m not usually a fan of fancy folds, but this double diamond fold card is so special and really makes for a WOW card. That and the fact that it means I get to use my favourite tool mean that this is one fancy fold card I can get onboard with!

I have used the gorgeous ‘new’ Frames and Flowers DSP with its mix of paper sheets and pre cut leaf and flower images this is a great little pack. The co-ordinating colour of cardstock that I chose to use is Lost Lagoon, such a gorgeous colour. I used a sheet of 12″ x 12″ and cut it down to 12″ x 6″, so you can make two of these cards out of a single sheet.

How to make a double diamond fold card – the instructions

  • Line the card up in the Paper Trimmer with the long edge at the top. Score the card at 3″, 4 1/2″ 7 1/2″ and 9″
  • Make a small mark, either with the scoring ‘blade’ or with a pencil at the 1 1/2″ and the 10 1/2″ point
  • Turn the card round by 180 degrees and mark it again at the 1 1/2″ and the 10 1/2″ point
  • Now line the card up so that the short edge is at top, and mark at 3″
  • Turn the card round by 180 degrees and mark at 3″ again
  • Now, this is the only complicated bit really, you need to score from the 1 1/2″ and the 10 1/2″ marks to the bottom of the second vertical score lines, going in from the edge to the centre, repeating on the opposite edge. I am hoping the picture below might help!!

Once you have done all of the scoring, you need to bring in your paper trimmer to cut between the 3″ mark on the short side and the closest end marks, both top and bottom. Again, see the picture below or watch the video at the end of the post, showing how to do the cutting and scoring.

To decorate the card you will need to cut 2 pieces of co-ordinating card measuring 5 7/8″ x 2 7/8″ and 2 pieces of Whisper White measuring 5 3/4″ x 2 3/4″. These are for the front and back rectangular panels.

You will also need three pieces of Designer Series Paper measuring 5 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ which we will cut down to decorate the diamond shapes and the triangular shapes.

Take two of these pieces of DSP to start with and make a mark at the halfway point on all four sides. That works out at 1 3/8″ for the short side and 2 7/8″ for the long side.

Make sure that you are as accurate as you can be here as it will really help to keep the card neat. Once you have made all of your marks, cut diagonally between them all, until you are left with a diamond shape.

These two diamonds will be stuck onto the very end ‘flaps’ of the card base, and the leftover triangles will be used to decorate the smaller triangular folded up bits. You might need to just trim a little bit off the flat bottomed side to make them fit.

The only thing left to do is to repeat the cutting of the diamond with the third piece of Designer Series Paper. Once you have done this you will need to cut it again in half, down the middle of the short side, so you have two triangles with very long bases. Again, you will need to trim a sliver of this long flat side off in order for them to fit.

Then all you need to do is decorate using the die cut pieces from the paper pack. I love that the difficult work is done for is here so all we need to do is have some fun. I also added a stamped sentiment using a circle punch and the Spotlight on Nature dies – these have been so popular!

If you are getting a bit lost with the actual construction and paper sections of this card, why not watch the following video to see in more detail how to make a double diamond fold card. It is an old video but I think it wills till do the trick.
