Our theme for this month’s Creativity Abounds Blog Hop is ‘Fancy Folds’ and I have got one for you that I have never seen before, a suspended Book Fold Card. I saw this card on Pinterest and the tutorial was from Jan B, using some lovely summer papers, but I decided it would look fabulous as a Christmas card, so I have chosen some brand new products to play with.
The Creativity Abounds crew are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who love to share ideas and inspire creativity – please do have a hop around the rest of the team’s blogs using the links at the bottom of this post, for even more fun fold card ideas.
I really loved this suspended book fold card for how well it showed off so many of the papers from one set. Stampin’ Up! have produced some spectacular papers for the new upcoming Mini Catalogue and this has to be one of my favourite packs, the Winter Meadow DSP, which co-ordinated beautifully with the Winter Meadow suite on P37. This is the suite I have chosen for my online Christmas Crafting Special event which you can read more about at the bottom of this post.
The finished card itself is 7″ x 5″, so you will need a piece of cardstock measuring 10″ x 7″ and scored in half at 5″. The white panels for the base of the card measure 1 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ (2 of these) and 2 3/4″ x 4 3/4″ with co-ordinating DSP measuring 1 5/8″ x 4 5/8″ (2 of these) and 2 5/8″ x 4 5/8″. Don’t stick these down yet though, as the suspension mechanism needs to hook under the centre panel.
The ‘book’ is simply made from a piece of cardstock measuring 5″ x 5″ with basic white card measuring 2 1/4″ x 4 3/4″ and DSP measuring 2 1/8″ x 4 5/8″. The suspension mechanism is made with two pieces of card measuring 2″ x 6″ scored and folded at 1 1/2″, 3″ and 4 1/2″. The white card for these (8 pieces) measures 1 1/4″ x 1 3/4″ and the DSP (8 pieces) measures 1 1/8″ x 1 5/8″.
Stick all of the DSP to the white card and then add the panels to the book – these are easy. Take your suspension elements and lay them out flat. Stick the DSP and white card to the centre two sections of each element, and then turn them over and stick another two also on the centre sections. Now you can attach your suspension mechanism to the base card.
Take a pencil and mark at 3 1/2″ at the top and bottom of your base card, then draw a light pencil mark, dividing the card in two. Then measure 1 1/2″ from the top down this line and make a mark, and 1 1/2″ from the bottom up this line and make a mark. Take one of your suspension elements and glue one end of the panel, only on one one side, then line this up with the straight line and the pencil measurements and stick down. Repeat with the other arm on the other side.
Now you have your arms in place, you can stick the base card panels down, in between and either side of the arm. Lay the arms flat, but folded in half, so they double back on themselves, then add glue to the card without and DSP on. Take your ‘book’ piece and stick it down squarely onto the base card and onto the glued panels.
Now all that is left is to decorate your book, with stamped images, dies and embellishments of your choice. I paired this card with the trees, sentiment and rabbit from the Regal Reindeer set, and whilst tempted to add more kept it fairly minimalist.
I hope that you have fun giving this suspended book fold card fold a try if you like the look of it, and for a video tutorial please do check out Jan B Cards on YouTube! For more fun fold ideas, check out the rest of the team’s posts using the links below, and until next time – Happy Stamping xx

Amazing card Heather! Never made this fold, will try this time.
Lovely card, Heather. I love the colors you chose.
You had me at ‘book fold’! Magic to a librarian’s ears! And it’s such a pretty fold too, with lots of room to display a message, a great dsp or some wonderful stamping.
Interesting card design, Heather!
Looks wonderful!
