How to colour flowers quickly with watercolour…

Last week on my YouTube live I played with the new Fragrant Flowers stamp set, colouring it in with my alcohol markers, but this week I wanted to demonstrate how to colour flowers quickly with watercolour, as we don’t always have the time to spend colouring so neatly. I hope this video and blog post will show you that you can achieve great effects really quickly!

To learn more about watercolouring, and all the techniques and tips that I have, why not think about joining my watercolour cardmaking course. You can find all of the details and the link to book over on my website – https://thesongbirdstamper.co.uk/watercolour-cardmaking-course

I’ve definitely gone bright with this card, using Polished Pink and Granny Apple Green, but to give some depth and shading I also used Blushing Bride as an undertone on the flowers and Garden Green as a darker tone on the leaves.

The flowers themselves are heat embossed with white heat embossing powder onto watercolour cardstock – meaning you can really play around with the colour when it comes to colouring. Scroll down to see the video over on my YouTube channel, and watch how I painted the flowers and created that splattering effect using a bit of Wink of Stella.

In this photo, you can really see what I talk about in the video, where I have used white card to stamp the sentiment you can really see the difference. In an ideal world I would have used the same card as I used for the watercolouring, but the sentiment didn’t stamp so well onto the slightly textured surface, sadly.

I die cut a few leaves from the co-ordinating die set, in vellum cardstock, to add a bit of interest but keep the card looking soft and subtle, letting those bright colours shine out. A few of the new Flat Adhesive Backed Pearls and this card is ready to go!
