Painted Poppies Thank You Card Set…

Sometimes, as crafters, we forget that we have the ability to really brighten people’s day with a handmade card. The trend of #makeacardsendacard became popular last year because in general we are trying to send more of our cards rather than just making them and keeping them in a drawer! I have been sending some of my most recent makes out over the last couple of weeks, and hopefully have managed to brighten someone’s day.

How about if we could give that possibility to other people though, to help them spread our love of crafting? Well we can, by giving the gift of a set of cards made by us! I am going to show you how to really quickly and easily make this set of cards which you can give away to someone as a gift.

I have used the ever popular Peaceful Poppies Designer Series Paper (£10.75). This paper is so beautiful that it really doesn’t need a lot added to it in order to make a stylish card. I have paired it with the Label Me Fancy Punch (£17) and used sentiments from the Peaceful Moments Stamp Set (£20). This is fast becoming one of my favourite stamp sets, with all of those handwritten font styled sentiments.

To make my card base I cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry card measuring 21cm x 14.5cm. This is roughly half a sheet of A4, so you can make two of these cards out of one sheet. I scored it in half at 10.5cm and used my bone folder to really sharpen the crease.

I then took a piece of the DSP which co-ordinated with my card base and cut this to 14cm x 10cm. You can get a whopping 6 of these out of a 12″ x 12″ sheet of DSP, meaning that (with the cardstock) each card only costs 32p to make! If you used up your whole stack of paper this way you could make a whopping 72 cards! Think how much joy these could bring to people.

I stamped the Thank You sentiment onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock and punched it out using the Label Me Fancy Punch. I cut a length of Rich Razzleberry cardstock 2.5cm x 10cm and stuck this across the front of my patterned paper as shown. I popped the sentiment up on dimensionals to help it stand out from the card base.

When I was making these cards I had a play around with ribbon and embellishments but I found that it really didn’t need anything else. All I did next was cut a piece of Whisper White card 14cm x 10cm to go on the inside of the card base, because you would struggle to write on the dark coloured card. I really enjoy using different coloured card bases and popping in a piece of Whisper White card really finishes it off nicely.

In the Annual Catalogue, at the back, there are some very useful acetate card boxes. They cost £6.50 and you get 10 in a pack. They will hold 5 of these cards and envelopes, just perfect for a project like this. They are super easy to assemble, just fold them into a box, tuck in the flaps and you are ready to go!

If you wanted to you could decorate the front of the box too, or put a belly band around it, but again I decided that in this instance less was more, I just let the cards inside speak for themselves. It also meant I had more time so I could make more of these sets! Here is a set in Poppy Parade too…

An amazing Australian Demonstrator, Kylie Bertucci, has a “Love It Chop It” theme going at the moment, with its own Facebook Group too. The idea is to get us all using this gorgeous paper that we own, rather than hanging on to it. If it is pretty enough for us to just sit there and look at it then it should be shared and enjoyed by everybody. That said, if you really can’t bear to use it, buy two packs each time so that you can still keep one for yourself!
