Adorable Owls meets Ink Blending…

I knew I wanted to play with the new Adorable Owls stamp set from Stampin’ Up! during my weekly YouTube live video, but was in a bit of a creative slump last week, so off I went to Pinterest in search of some ideas – it really is a fabulous resource for cardmakers, especially with your Stampin’ Up! supplies, because there are just so many ideas out there for our stamp sets. All you do is type in the name and away you go!

I was totally inspired by a card that was actually made by a friend of mine, Leighsa from Leighsa’s Loft. I just loved the design of this card, and the colours too, and was totally inspired to create something similar, though also very different. What an amazing job Leighsa, just stunning.

So out came my blending brushes, my circle dies and my owls, to sit and have a good old play. My creative slump continued, sadly, and it took me two full evenings to create something I was happy with, but I nailed it just in time for the live on Thursday. You can watch the video below if you want to see me crafting ‘in action’.

Here is my original design, with the circle, but instead of Leighsa’s colours I went with my old faithful, Gorgeous Grape, and instead of die cut leaves round the edge, I went for a full blown coloured flower from the Perfectly Pencilled Designer Series Paper. I LOVE this paper and had almost forgotten about it, but it works so well with the Adorable Owls stamp set!

As you can see, inspired by but very different. I love being inspired by other people and then just taking that idea wherever the creativity leads you! Why not have a go yourself some time.

I went on to make another card, with the same idea but this time with a masked rectangle instead of a circle. So much fun and you could totally use any shape for this technique.

I used both Smoky Slate and Gray Granite to colour the Adorable Owls in, and Fresh Freesia (oh my favourite Fresh Freesia!), Daffodil Delight and Granny Apple Green for the flowers and leaves. All that was left was to add a couple of gems and the card is ready for sending.

Thank you so much to Leighsa for the inspiration and to you all for reading and maybe watching the video. If you would like to purchase any of the supplies I have used, you can do so by visiting my ONLINE STORE, and if your order goes over £45, you can get a set of the Adorable Owls stamps for free, too!
