Elegant Fun Fold Sympathy Card – Creativity Abounds Blog Hop March ’26…

I’ve got a lovely project to share with you today, a calming, elegant fun‑fold sympathy card made using the Delicate Whispers bundle for the beautiful foliage and florals, with sentiments from Framed All Around and Sending Salutations, plus a touch of Scalloped Wishes for that pretty scalloped frame. The colour palette is one of my favourites for soft, nature‑inspired cards: Crumb Cake and Misty Moonlight.

The two photos you’ll see below are actually from the same card — one shows the front cover, and the other shows the inside once the fold is opened out. This design gives you four decorative square panels inside, perfect for layering, stamping, or adding die‑cut elements. I kept it quite simple, as that’s how I like my sympathy cards, but you can use this fold for anything and go as plain or as stepped up as you like.

Creating the Fun Fold Base

This fold looks wonderfully impressive when displayed, but it’s very straightforward to put together. I used Misty Moonlight for my card base, but you can use any colour you like to match the papers you want to use. Cut your card base to 14.9cm x 21cm and then score on the long side at 7.5cm, 10.5cm and 13.5cm.

Fold these score lines in a concertina (valley–mountain-valley) to create the zig‑zag structure. This gives the card its depth and allows the inside panels to step forward beautifully when opened.

Front Panel Decoration

The papers I used are called Delicate Dreams Speciality Designer Series Paper, and they coordinate beautifully with the Delicate Whispers Bundle. The front of the card uses a single piece of DSP that sets the tone for the whole project. This is cut to 14.4cm x 7cm.

Throughout this elegant fun-fold sympathy card I used a Misty Moonlight florals pattern and a beautiful Crumb Cake line‑art pattern. Both work perfectly with the delicate imagery from the Delicate Whispers bundle. You can keep the front simple or add a layered focal point – I used the I used the Scalloped Wishes bundle to create a soft oval frame on the front of my card, then added a Misty Moonlight flower and some leafy sprigs for texture.

Inside Panels – Four Decorative Squares

When you open the card fully, you’ll see four square panels, each measuring 7cm x 7cm. These are ideal for mixing stamping and die‑cutting, or for creating a coordinated set of mini‑scenes. I kept things really simple and let the papers speak for themselves

Pop Up Layers

For the pop up sections in the middle of the card, cut three of each of the following.

• 4.5cm x 5.5cm (Basic white bottom layer)
• 4.1cm x 5.1cm (Basic White top layer)

Stick the top and bottom ones (gluing only the left edge) to the left hand section of the raised middle, and the middle one (gluing only the right edge) to the right section of the raised middle area. I stamped the Delicate Whispers stamp in Misty Moonlight to two of the panels, and added a touch of colour with my stampin’ Blends too. Oh, and a couple of little Crumb cake flowers to add a bit of interest.

The sentiment from Sending Salutations fits perfectly inside and adds a gentle, heartfelt touch, along with some white die cut foliage and a stamped and hand coloured flower image.

Finishing the Card

Once everything is adhered, the card folds flat for posting but opens into a gorgeous stepped display. It’s one of those designs that feels extra special without being complicated — always a win in my book.
