Cardmaking Techniques- Be Inspired Blog Hop Mar ’26…

Hello and welcome to the Be Inspired blog hop, where this month we plan to inspire you lots of cardmaking techniques. We have all chosen the one technique that we couldn’t live without, and that for me has to be watercolouring. I love the relaxing nature of just sitting and colouring with some ink and some water!

I used the fabulous ‘Make a Wish’ standalone stamp set for this card, and it really is so simple. Just take some waterproof ink (like StazOn or Versafine) and stamp the images into a scene on some watercolour paper. There is no masking involved here, which makes it so much fun to just sit down and stamp.

Water really is your friend when watercolouring – all too often I see people struggling with technique and it is so often because they are trying to paint onto really dry paper. Now… that is a thing, it is called wet on dry, and is how I painted the flowers and leaves here, but to get any real depth to a painting I think you need to get used to the wet on wet technique.

Wet on wet is where your paper is already wet before you start painting. That can be wet with colour already down (from wet on dry as earlier) or wet just because you have prewet the paper. Look at how my sky isn’t a uniform colour. That is because I wet the paper first, making sure it glistened, and then I dropped in the colour – I love watching how to ink just wicks away and moves and swirls.

In case you would like to have a go at this, the colours I used were Azure Afternoon, Grey Granite, Pecan Pie, Melon Mambo, Granny Apple Green and Garden Green. I enjoyed painting the grass, firstly with a layer of garden green, and then while it was still wet I added in a few touches of Garden Green to bring it to life.

I can’t wait to see which cardmaking techniques everyone else has in store for us this month – please do hop along using the button below and head to the next in line…
